End of Tour

Oct.13, 2014

This photo was taken the night of David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof.
Played by New York actors and staged on an actual porch here at this beautiful
historic home in our neck of the woods.
Larry and I were so excited to attend!

The original section of this home dates to 1835 with later additions in 1920, 1940 and 1996.
The barn dates back to 1804 and has been restored into living quarters.

The back area of the house.

.

Their Barn.

Gardens by the barn.

The original log house on the property was replaced about 1800
with this plaster over stone house.
It was built in three stages on a prosperous dairy farm.

Their beautiful stone barn and horses.

This photo was taken near the end of our tour
while driving through Historic Yellow Springs Village.

The End.

Tour Part 2

Oct. 7, 2014
Historic House Tour Part 2.

The original section of this home was built in 1750
with a later addition in the 1890's and 1960's.

Steps to terrace.

One of the sitting areas on the terrace.

Steps to the pool.

This 230 year old farmhouse and barn was once a summer camp.
Sorry I took such a far away picture of the house.

The view from the upper area of the barn was spectacular!

The upper area of the barn was a game and movie room for their children.
Below were the horses.

This grand Victorian home and barn were once part of 144 acre farm.
The original stone home on the property was built in 1764 and the largest part
was built in 1839 by the homeowners ancestors.
The farm was sold out of the family's hands in 1926,
but found and purchased by current homeowner in 1989,
making him the fifth generation owner.

One last group of photos to come!

Historic House Tour

Oct. 5, 2014

The house tour was wonderful!
A few of the homes on tour were in my neck of the woods.
I could only take pictures of the outside of the homes and property,
no indoor photography was allowed.
A few of the homes I was unable to photograph.
I will share in two posts the photos I was able to take.

Hope you enjoy the tour!!
xoxo Louise

This log home was built c.1750 the stone addition c.1780
The barn was built c.1800
The home feature three large walk-in fireplaces,
three indoor bake ovens and remnants of an outside bake oven.

The original section of this farmhouse dates c.1798.
Additions added c.1840, and in 2008 a period appropriate family room was added.
Their most recent project was to finish the interior attached Summer Kitchen with walk-in fireplace.
You will see the Summer Kitchen off to the left in the second photo.

This farmhouse sits on 18 acres, built 1750 with two rooms down and 2 rooms upstairs.
Additions were built in 1789, 1860 and 1975.
I also took pictures of their sweet horse and sheep.

Wisner-Rapp House built in the early to mid 1800's
is now home of the Charlestown Historical Society.
Jacob Wisner 1761-1846  was a Revolutionary War Veteran.
The drum down below was found under the rafters.
They think it was used by Jacob during the Revolutionary War.
